Weakness in Barriers‘ Management
Since the industrial revolution, the idea of process safety has changed significantly, with a significant change in strategy following each significant catastrophe, such as the Piper Alpha, Bhopal, PAN AM-KLM, Texas City, and Challenger disasters, among many others. Human and organizational management system has significantly replaced traditional HSE throughout the years. The industry has recently refocused on barriers management, which is a direct approach to managing barriers that are essential to managing major accident hazards with an emphasis on performance assurance through organizational and human management. This Paper will go over the barrier management approach and will discuss main obstacles to managing them and how to get beyond them.
